If we had a penny for every time we heard ‘I want to lose the lockdown weight!’ when asking what our clients want to achieve with us, well, we’d have a good few pennies.

Sometimes it feels like no matter how much cardio you’re doing, you just can’t shift that tummy fat. Are the thighs as jiggly as ever and does the ‘baby fat’ on your cheeks refuse to disappear? Chances are, you’re not following a personalised programme. You can spend another six months on that oh-so loved and adored Cross Trainer, certain that you sweating more than treadmill-Tracy proves that something is happening, or you can invest in yourself and follow a bespoke programme created specifically for you.
Gyms have found many members quitting after only a few months due to ‘not seeing results’. Studies show that this boils down to two key factors:
1) Lack of motivation and accountability
Needless to say, when working out with a personal trainer you are much less likely to cancel as you would an ordinary gym session. Plus, when your reserves begin to dip, you’ll be pushed just that little bit more. This has an accumulative effect, and when coupled with the expert knowledge you’ll be receiving, you become equipped with the tools to exercise effectively on your own. In turn, you become naturally motivated to work out. “Teach a man to fish, and he’ll be losing fat in no time!”.
2) Not having sufficient knowledge of exercises, equipment and technique
Many of us think that we can ‘beat the system’ and find solutions for all of life’s problems on the internet. If that were true, the Personal Trainer would be as extinct as the dodo and gym goer’s would have year-round beach bodies. A personal trainer has knowledge which is applied to the client, whilst a YouTube video is generic and impersonal. Information you get for free will always be limited. Don’t be afraid of investing in quality, as this always pays off with tangible results.
A word of wisdom: you can be training five times a week with a Personal Trainer but if you’re tip-toeing to the snack cupboard at midnight just as often, then results will be minimal. Willpower is the name of the game.
