Boxing and Thai Boxing

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

One of the absolute best ways to improve confidence, boost health and develop discipline: martial arts. Boxing will not only impact the physical, but will have immense cognitive and emotional benefits - read on to discover the treasures of boxing training.

Confidence

If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize” (Muhammad Ali)

Self-confidence is the best outfit a person can wear. Notice how professional fighters have a natural ease about them? How other people have no effect on them? This is because they are confident. Having the knowledge that you are strong is the foundation for confidence. Moreover, training regularly will greatly improve your physique - you will become more lean, toned and sculpted. Yes, loving yourself should come from within, but it's pretty hard to do when you don’t like what you see in the mirror.

Better Health

Studies show that regular boxing training, whether it is solely focused on technique or it is more of a ‘box-fit’ style, lowers blood pressure and decreases resting heart rate over time. Similarly to HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts, boxing will boost heart health, reduce cholesterol levels and maintain more balanced levels of blood sugar and insulin. What’s more, if you can’t stand the sight of another treadmill or Cross-trainer, then boxing or Thai Boxing can be the perfect solution to get that cardio in!

Mental Rigour

As legendary Bruce Lee once said, “The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus”. Learning punching combinations, perfecting your upper-cut and pushing through that final 2-minute round will undoubtedly reward you with increased discipline and mental stamina. A recent study has demonstrated that aerobic exercises such as boxing resulted in physical changes in the brain, consequently improving memory and learning skills. The same research showed a correlation between lower cases of dementia with martial arts fighters.
